Faique, a 19
years old boy from The United Arab Emirates was hospitalized in
our hospital at 19:00 p.m. on September 13, 2010. The patient
caught a cold and high fever in his 11th month age,
and then he went to the local hospital for the cerebrospinal
fluid and blood test. He was diagnosed with viral encephalitis.
In the later 6 months, the family found that the patient had the
problems with speaking and hearing. So he took the tuning fork
test and was diagnosed as meningitis sequela (deaf-mute) and
severe binaural neural hearing loss. After that, he could not
hear anything and could not speak anything for 18 years.
However, he has got amazing improvement with our comprehensive
TCM treatment here. After he came to our hospital, on September
16, 2010 with the assistant examinations and tests in
ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology department of No.535 Army
Hospital in our city, he was definitely diagnosed as
severe binaural neural hearing loss. The doctor suggested

Diagnostic
Basis:
TCM: The patient
was deaf and was unable to speak for 19 years. It was due to dual vacuity of qi
and yin and network
vessels deprived of nourishment. His tongue body was
red with yellowish tongue sides. There was no tongue coating. His pulses were
wiry and weak. According to the symptoms of the tongue and pulse, he was
diagnosed with deafness.
Western
Medicine: According to his disease history-

Diagnostic
Differentiation:
TCM: The
patient¡¯s deafness should be differentiated from vertigo. Vertigo is mainly
characterized by temporary deafness or tinnitus, dizziness, nausea, and
vomiting. So they can be distinguished from each other.
Western
Medicine: The patient's deafness should be differentiated from
Meniere's disease which is characterized by the inner ear labyrinth lymphedema,
paroxysmal and rotatory vertigo, deafness.
So they are not difficult to be distinguished.
