Successful TCM Treatment Case

Herniated Lumbar Disk

 

Peng Chengwu, 39 years old man.

June 14, 2005.

The patient has herniated lumbar disk since 1995. Heavy pains in the waist, sciatica pains in left lower limb. Since 1995, the condition improved after taking Chinese medicine for several years.

Dry throat for 3 years. There is a little phlegm in the past. The throat becomes dryer and dryer at present. No cough and no prickly pains of the throat. Salty taste in mouth and sometimes no taste in the mouth. He feels out of breath in winter season.

His appetite is not bad. No desire to drink but like warm water. No chest oppression and palpitations. Fatigue after getting up and the eyes are not easy to open. His stool is not constipated and the bowl movement is twice a day. He has yellow urine. He is aversion to cold in winter. No hot sense in the palms and soles. Heavy sense in waist and left lower limb.

The condition becomes worse after taking Li Yan Pian. The patient dose not has night urination and no joint pains. 9 hours sleep everyday. He always feels cold around his body and the Yang qi can not be lifted up. Reddish tongue body with yellow, greasy coating. The pulse is basically normal and a bit replete.

Diagnosis: Herniated lumbar disk, sciatica pains, pharyngitis.

bupleurum root 12g,  white peony root 10g,  curcuma tuber 10g,  cyperus root 10g,  toosendan fruit 10g,  notopterygium root  8g,  duhuo angelica root  8g,  codonopsis root  15g,  ovate atractylodes root  15g,  scrophularia root  10g,  belamcandae root   10g,  puffball 10g,  lonicera flower 15g,  wild chrysanthemum   15g,  dandelion  15g,  adenophora root  10g,  pueraria root 10g,  ophiopogon tuber 10g,  amomum fruit  10g,  salvia root  10g.

The dry throat is relieved 80%. A little bit white phlegm. Throat pains spread to the right lower neck. The pains of the right ribs are improved 70%. His appetite is the same as before. He still has fatigue. The bowel movement is improved and once a day, yellowish urine. The patient¨s lower limbs sweat at night, which relieve the heavy sense in his lower limbs by 80%. The lumbar tight and aching pains are relieved 50%. His sleeping is fine and 8 hours everyday. The pulse is normal. Kidney pulse is weak. Slightly reddish tongue tip, the yellow and greasy coating obvious improved.

The throat pains are recovered. No hot sense in the right armpit and on the right ribs. No lumbar pains. His main complaint is fatigue. 7 hours sleep everyday and his appetite is normal. Uncomfortable stomach, tastelessness in the mouth. The bowel movement is once a day and the stool is not constipated. Yellowish urine. No night urination, no tidal fever and no night sweating. Like cold drinks. The pulse is moderate and reddish tongue with thin and yellowish coating.
