Successful TCM Treatment Case

Facial Palsy

 

Miss Liu, a female, 38 years old

Major complaints: deviated eyes and mouth

Her lips became right deviation four days ago, drooling from the left corner of the mouth. Inhibited speech. Inability to chew food. Her left eyes couldn¨t be closed. She was treated in the private clinic but there was no effective result.

Physical examination: Human Center is turning to the right side, the left eye can not be closed. The tongue body is dull. Thin and thick tongue coating. The pulse is slightly stringy-like.

Diagnosis: Facial Palsy (deficiency of right qi, wind phlegm obstructing the channels and network vessels).

Treatment strategy: Dispel wind and transform phlegm, nourish blood and quicken blood circulation, track down wind and free network vessels.

Formula:

Large gentian root 12g, ledebouriella 10g, etc.

After taking the herbal tea, the eyes and mouth deviation greatly improved. The patient has fluent speech. Progress of the ability to chew food. More flexible to close her eyes. Occasional spasm in the left corner of the mouth. The tongue body is dull. Thin and yellowish tongue coating. The pulse is slightly stringy-like.

We adjust the formula and put the Chinese herb asarum 3g into the previous prescription.

Obvious improvement of the eyes and mouth deviation. Her left eye can close now. No speech difficult. Normal ability to chaw food. There is still spasm in the left corner of the mouth, but the frequency is reduced. Distention pains of the left ear and neck. The tongue body is dull. Thin tongue coating. The pulse is slightly stringy-like.

We remove the large gentian root from the formula and add 8g bile processed arisaema root into it to didpel damp and transform phlegm for consolidating her treatment result.
