Properties:
The herb is pungent, slightly bitter and sour in flavour,
and warm in nature. It acts on the liver, spleen and lung
channels. Being pungent and warm for dispersing, bitter
and warm for removing dampness, the herb can regulate Qi
in the liver and stomach and clear phlegm-dampness in the
lung channel. It is indicated for Qi stagnation in the
liver and stomach, abundant phlegm, cough and other
syndromes.
Effects:
Soothing the liver, normalizing function of the stomach,
eliminating dampness and resolving phlegm.
Indications:
1. To treat
distending pain in the chest and hypochondrium, anorexia,
vomiting, acid regurgitation and other symptoms caused by
stagnation of the liver-Qi and incoordination between the
liver and stomach, the herb is often used in combination
with green tangerine orange peel, tangerine peel, nutgrass
flatsedge rhizome, aucklandia root and other herbs for
promoting Qi circulation and alleviating pain.
2. To treat
stagnation of phlegm and Qi, cough wiht abundant phlegm,
oppressive chest and greasy tongue coatip, it is often
used in combination with tangerine peel, pinellia tuber,
poria and other and other herbs for removing dampness,
resolving phlegm and strengthening the spleen.
Dosage and
Administration: 3-10g.
Appendix:
Finger Citron
The drug is the
fruit of the evergreen dungarunga or bush Citrus medical
L. var. sarcodactylis Swingle of family Rutaceae. It is
pungent and bitter in taste and warm in nature. It is
similar to citron fruit in effects and indications, but
the former has a stronger potency of promoting Qi
circulation than the latter. Finger citron is indicated
for Qi stagnation, distention and fullness in the liver
and stomach, stagnation of phlegm, asthma and other
syndromes. Its dosage is 5-10g.
