Properties:
Salty
in flavour, cold in nature, it acts on liver and heart
channels. It has effects of calming the liver-yang.
Clearing liver-heat, tranquilizing and relieving
palpitation, improving vision. It is also indicated in
conjunctival congestion, dysphoria and insomnia due to
hyperactivity of liver-yang.
Effects:
Calmining the liver-yang and checking exuberance of Yang,
clearing liver-heat, improving vision, reliving
palpitation and tranquilizing.
Indications:
1. For dizziness
and blurred vision, dysphoria and irritable, headache
caused by hyperactivity of liver-yang, it is often used
with abalone shell (Concha Haliotidis), dragon¡¯s bone
(Os Draconis fassilia), white peony root (Radix Paeoniae
alba) and chrysanthemum flower (Flos Chrysanthemi).
2. For
conjunctival congestion, headache due to flaring-up of
liver-fire, it is used in combination with selfheal spike
(Spica Prunellae), butterflybush flower (Flos Baddlejae),
cassia seed (semen Cassiae) and plantain seed (Semen
plantaginis); for blurred vision due to deficiency of
liver, the herbs of wolfberry fruit (Fructus Lycii), fruit
of glossy priver (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi) and milkvetch
seed (Semen Astragali complanati) are added.
3. For vexation
and restlessness, insomnia and dreaminess, dizziness and
blurred dizziness and blurred vision caused by
hyperactivity of liver-yang, it is often used with
dragon¡¯s bone (Os Draconis Fossilia), oyster shell (Concha
Ostreae), magnetite (Magnetitum), achyranthes and cyathula
root (Radix Achyranthis bidentatae et Radix Cyathulae);
for irritability, insomnia and amnesia, it is used
together with wild jujube seed (Semen Ziziphi spinosae),
longan pulp (Arillus longan) and ginseng (Radix Ginseng).
Dosage and
Administration: 15-30g,
crushed before using and decocted earlier than other
drugs.
