Chlorite-Schist

 

Properties: It is sweet and salty in flavour and cold in nature. It is tropistic to the lung, liver channels. Its saltiness can resolve hard lumps. It can calm and send down abnormally ascending Qi by its heavy quality. It acts on the lung channel to resolve phlegm and lumps, send down rebellious Qi, relieve asthma; while on the liver channel to calm the liver to relieve convulsion. Therefore, it is indicated in stubborn phlegm, which is lingering and difficult to be expec torated, as well as seven orificese blocked by invasion of phlegm. epilepsy, phobia mania, and other syndromes.

Effects: Sending down abnormally ascending qi and removing phlegm, calming the liver to relieve convulsion.

Indications:

1. For treatment of cough due to phlegm-heat, sticky phlegm, which is hard to be expectorated, chest tightness and breathless, i.e. stubborn phlegm with cough and asthma, it can be used in combination with Fructus Trichosanthis, Bulbus Fritillariae, Radix Scutellariae, Semen Armeniacae Amarum, and other herbs having the function of removing heat-phlegm, relieving cough and asthma.

2. For treatment of mental confusion, vexation and mania due to accumulation of heat-phlegm blocking the seven orifices, it is usually used together with Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, Radix Scutellariae, Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum in order to purge the pathogenic fire to dispel phlegm, resuscitate and arrest convulsion, such as Mengshi Guntan Wan; For treatment of infantile accumulation of phlegm-heat, pyrexia and acute infantile convulsion, its powder can be administered by mixing with juice of Herba Menthae and white honey in order to remove heat-phlegm, arrest convulsion and calm wind.

Dosage and Administration: 6-10g for pills; 1.5-3g for powder.

Precautions: Contraindicated in pregnancy.
