Properties:
Pungent in flavour, warm in nature, acting on the heart
channel, liver channel. Being pungent for dispersing and
warm for purging, it acts on the blood division. It is
particularly effective in dispersing, promoting Qi, and
blood circulation, relieving blood stasis, swelling and
pain. It is used in treatment of headache, thoracalgia,
abdominal pain, dysmenorrhea caused by blood stasis of the
blood division, carbuncle, traumatic ecchymosis and pain.
It is the main herb used for promoting blood flow to
regulate menstruation.
Effects:
Promoting blood circulation and relieving blood stasis,
regulating menstruation and relieving pain.
Indications:
1. For treatment of blood stasis in women, irregular
menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, postpartum tormina, it is usually used in combination with Radix
Angelicae Sinensis, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, Semen
Persicae, Herba Leonuri, and other herbs with the effect
of promoting blood flow to regulate menstruation; For
treatment of abdominal mass, it should be used together
with Eupolyphaga seu steleophaga, Carapax Trionycis,
Rhizoma Zedoariae, Concha Ostreae, and other drugs to
soften and resolve hard lumps, resolve blood stasis and
abdominal mass.

For treatment of angina pectoris due to blood
stasis and obstruction, it is usually used in combination
with Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Radix Paeoniae Rubra,
Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, and other drug with the
effect of relieving pain and the blood stasis, such as
Guanxin-2; For treatment of trauma, swelling and pain due
to blood stasis, it can be used together with Resina
Olibani, Myrrha, Semen Persicae, Squama Manitis and etc.
to promote blood circulation, relieve pain and blood
stasis, to heal injury; For treatment of swelling and pain
due to carbuncle, it can be used in combination with Flos
Lonicerae, Radix Glycyrrhizae, Resina Olibani, Radix
Paeoniae Rubra, and other herbs with the functions of
removing toxins, resolving swelling and promoting tissue
regeneration.
Besides,
it can also be used to treat eruptions caused by noxious
heat, brustrated eruption of measles, and other syndromes.
Dosage
and Administration: 5-10g.
Precautions:
Contraindicated in pregnancy.
