Cordyceps

 

Properties: Sweet in flavour, neutral in nature, it is tropistic to the lung and kidney channels. Being sweet, neutral, moist and not very dry in property, and mild in action, it reinforce Qi and Yin mildly, invigorate Yang and supplement vital essence, and is used as an excellent tonic for tonifying the lung and kidney. It serves to treat chronic cough in the type of both lung-and kidney-deficiency, impotence due to consuption of kidney essence and weakness because of aging or chronic diseases.

Effects: supplementing the lung and kidney, stopping cough and relieving asthma.

Indications:

1. For kidney-deficiency with impotence, lumbago and spermatorrhea, it can be taken alone in form of wine infusion or used together with other herbs for reinforcing the kidney and strengthening Yang.

2. For deficiency of both the lung and kidney manifested as chronic cough and asthma in deficiency type, it is often used with herbs for tonifying the lung and kidney, such as Radix Genseng, Semen Juglandis, Fructus Psoraleae, Radix Astragali seu Hedysari, etc; for phthisical cough in type of Yin-deficiency, night sweating and hemoptysis, it is used with herbs for nourishing Yin, moistening the lung, arresting cough and stopping bleeding, such as Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Colla Corii Asinin, Radix Ophiopogonis, Rhizoma Bletillae, etc.

Dosage and Administration: 5-10g, used in bolus or compound powder.
