Eagle Wood (chen xiang)

Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum

 

Properties: The herb is pungent and bitter in flavour, and warm in nature. It acts on the spleen, stomach and kidney channels. Being pungent for dispersing, warm for clearing, sinking and flowing downward, it is good at promoting Qi circulation, dispersing cold, alleviating pain, lowering the adverse flow of Qi in the lung and stomach, eliminating hiccup relieving asthma. The herb is suitable for treatment of cold accumulation, Qi stagnation and distending pain in the chest and abdomen, adverse flow of Qi in the lung and stomach, asthma, cough, vomiting, hiccup and other syndromes.

Effects: Promoting Qi circulation, alleviating pain, lowering adverse flow of Qi, arresting vomiting, helping inspiration and relieving asthma.

Indications:

1. The herb is often used in combination with aucklandia root, lindera root, immature bitter orange and other herbs for promoting Qi circulation, dispersing cold and alleviating pain, to treat cold accumulation, Qi stagnation and distending pain in the chest and abdomen; and with cloves, kaki calyx, round cardamon seed and other drugs for warming the middle jiao and lowering the adverse flow of Qi, to treat cold of insufficiency type in the middle jiao, failure of descending of the stomach-Qi, vomiting and hiccup.

2. The herb can be used in combination with prepared aconite root, cinnamon bark, psoralea fruit and other herbs for warming the kidney and supporting Yang, to treat deficiency and weakness of the kidney-Yang, feeble breathe, chronic cough and asthma of insufficiency type; and with tangerine peel, pinellia tuber, magnolia bark, perilla fruit and other drugs for lowering the adverse flow of Qi, resolving phlegm, eliminating cough and relieving asthma, to treat excessive phlegm-dampness, stagnation of phlegm and Qi, adverse flow of Qi, asthma and cough.

Dosage and Administration: 1-3g. Put the herb into decoction later or its powder should be taken orally following its infusion with boiling water, 0.5-1.5g each time.
